Description/ Specification of Solar Cell Back Sheet
Purpose of solar cell back sheet is twofold. Firstly, it acts as protection for the cell. Secondly it insulates the solar panel. The solar cells require protection from moisture, UV , High Temperature, Impact etc which is provided by the back sheet. It is made by combining 3 layers of laminates of polymer material bonded together. A Solar cell back sheet is formed using 4-5 layers of material. out of these two layers in the cell side and air side are PVF or PVDF material , while the central one is of PET material, which is for insulation purpose. The remaining 2 layers are those of adhesives for bonding purpose. Cheaper solar back sheets are normally of thin layer and can fail in the event of moisture attack, damage during handling or operation etc. While selecting Solar cells, those with back sheets with high quality material and of adequate thickness is to be chosen to get long life and improved efficiency. Solar cell back sheets should comply with relevant IEC quality standard and should pass prescribed quality test for dielectric strength. Some back sheet designs incorporate an additional layer of aluminium, which offers additional protection from moisture and offers better heat dissipation capacity.
