Description/ Specification of Aluminium Conductors
Aluminium is extensively used in the electrical wire, cables, and conductors due to it’s high electrical conductivity. There are different types of aluminium conductors like AAC (All Aluminium Conductor), AAAC (All Aluminium Alloy Conductor), ACSR (Aluminium Conductor Steel Reinforced) being the prominent ones among them. AAC are made of only aluminium strands which are laid in several layers oriented alternately in opposite directions. Typical construction has 7,19,37.or 51 strands. These are low in weight and used for short runs requiring high current capacity, such in city distribution system, busbars in small switchyards etc. However, being made of only aluminium, they lack strength. Because aluminium has excellent resistance to corrosion AAC conductors are the preferred choice in coastal areas. AAC conductors are also used as conductors for insulated cables. AAAC conductors are made of aluminium-magnesium-silicon alloys used for their corrosion resistance and mechanical strength. They also have high electrical conductivity. AAAC conductors are used as busbars in HV substations and in HV overhead lines. ACSR conductors are reinforced with steel strand at their core. Being stronger than the other types, these are used for long run overhead conductors such as those used in river crossing. This page lists the manufacturers and dealers for aluminium conductors.
